Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Duet fake: the short answer

"Reverso Tribute Duet" is not a name in the Jaeger-LeCoultre catalog. Sellers use it for two models: the Reverso Tribute Duoface and the Reverso Classic Duetto. Copies of both exist. Supply is smaller than for Rolex or Cartier because the Reverso carriage is hard to machine and the Duoface movement is hard to clone. Most fakes are caught at the case, the second dial and the crown.

What the watch is

The case flips on a carriage inside an outer frame. Two dials sit back to back. On the Tribute Duoface, the reverse face carries a second time zone with a day and night indicator. Steel Duoface Small Seconds cases measure about 47 mm by 28.3 mm and about 10.3 mm thick. The Classic Duetto is smaller at about 34.2 mm by 21 mm.

Price sets the first filter

Reverso Tribute steel models list between about $8,000 and $12,000. Gold versions run higher. A seller asking $300 to $900 for a new Reverso is not selling a Jaeger-LeCoultre. Copies sit in that band.

How to Spot a Tribute Duet Jaeger-LeCoultre Fake Copy

Case and carriage

  • The carriage slides with light friction and no rattle.
  • Sides are polished, top surfaces are satin. Copies show soft edges and uneven brushing.
  • The flip runs on two pins. Originals show tight tolerance. Copies show play and gaps at the hinge line.
  • Sapphire sits flush with the bezel. Copies use mineral glass with a wider bevel.
  • Measure the case with calipers. Copies run 1 to 2 mm over spec.

Dial details

Guilloche lines on Tribute dials are cut into the metal, not stamped. Light rakes across them. Copies show shallow lines and blur at the center. Printed text on originals is thin and sharp. The Jaeger-LeCoultre signature on copies sits too heavy or spaced wrong. The date aperture on copies is off the printed track. Set the second time zone and watch the day and night disc step with the hand.

Movement

The Tribute Duoface runs the manual calibre 854A/2 with a 42 hour power reserve. The Classic Duetto runs calibre 844. Winding on an original is smooth and stops at the full point. Copies use modified generic movements with 20 to 40 hours of reserve and a rough crown action. Display backs are not standard on these models, so buyers check case profile, crown feel and service records. A photo of a bridge engraving is a start, not proof.

Caseback, numbers and papers

Original casebacks carry the reference, a serial number and the maker's mark. Engraving is cut into the metal. Copies laser print or acid etch, which reads flat. Serial and reference must match the papers and the archive extract from Jaeger-LeCoultre. Production counts for the Reverso line are not published, so no seller can prove a limited run. Ask for the invoice, the booklet and the warranty card with a matching number.

Checks before payment

  1. Flip the carriage and listen for one clean click.
  2. Compare dial print with a factory photo.
  3. Check the serial against the papers.
  4. Request a service history.
  5. Send the serial to Jaeger-LeCoultre for archive confirmation.

A copy will be refused at service. That single step settles the question.
