The short answer
A fake Omega x Swatch MoonSwatch is not the same problem as a fake Speedmaster. The real thing retails for $260, is made of Bioceramic, runs on a quartz movement and arrives in a cardboard box. A copy costs $15 to $60 on marketplaces and looks close enough that the people around you will not notice. If you want the look and you know what you are getting, that is the whole story.

What the real MoonSwatch is
Omega and Swatch launched the collaboration on March 26, 2022. Eleven models, each named after a planet or a moon, all sharing the same 42 mm case, the same velcro strap and the same quartz heart. The case is Bioceramic, a mix of ceramic powder and a plastic derived from castor oil. It feels hard and slightly grainy, not like the glossy ABS you find on toy watches. Nothing about it is precious. That matters, because it changes what a replica has to fake.
Fake Omega Speedmaster x Swatch Reviews: How to Compare and Pick
The tells that actually work
- Case finish. Genuine Bioceramic is matte with a fine texture. Cheap copies are glossy, waxy, or uneven at the edges.
- Weight and feel. The real one is light but dense, with a cool touch. Copies feel hollow or squeak when you flex the strap.
- Subdials. On the genuine, the three counters sit at 2, 6 and 10 o'clock. A copy using the 3, 6, 9 layout borrowed from the Speedmaster is wrong. A copy where the counters never move when you run the chronograph is also wrong.
- Crown and pushers. The genuine crown carries a clean Omega symbol. On fakes it is a blob, or a stamped mark sitting off center.
- Caseback. Mission name, both brand logos and the Bioceramic wording should be sharp. Copies tend to print instead of stamp, and the text sits shallow.
- Strap hardware. Velcro loops, stitching and keeper shape are where the budget shows first.
- Dial printing. Look at letter spacing. If "SWATCH" looks fat or crowded against the indices, walk away.
None of that needs a loupe. The subdial position and the chronograph function alone separate most fakes in about five seconds.

Quality tiers
There are three.
Fake Omega x Swatch Speedmaster Clone: How to Spot One
- Sub-$25 tier. Plastic case, printed dial, frozen subdials, a strap that frays in a month. Fine as a novelty. Not a watch.
- $30 to $60 tier. Better case shape, working chronograph, correct 2-6-10 subdial layout. This is where most buyers land, and where you get the closest match to the original for a fifth of the price.
- $80 and up. Some sellers offer mod builds: a third-party movement dropped into an aftermarket metal case. Those are not MoonSwatch replicas at all. They are a different watch wearing the same dial design, and they should be sold that way.
What a copy gets right, and what it does not
The shape and the color story are easy to copy. The grey of Mission to the Moon, the deep blue of Mission to Neptune, the orange hands of Mission to Jupiter: all of that can be matched with a decent photo and a printer. What copies miss is consistency. One unit from a seller will have a crisp caseback and the next will have the mission name sliding off the edge. Lume is weak or absent. The crystal is flat where the original is domed, which you see the moment light hits the dial at an angle.
Buying advice
Decide first whether you want the object or the idea. If you want the idea, a $40 copy does the job and nobody at a dinner table will question it. If you want the object, buy the genuine one from Swatch. At $260 it is one of the few watches where the authentic version costs less over five years than chasing three bad copies.
Two practical notes. Anyone selling a "MoonSwatch" for $150 and up is either selling a genuine one above retail or dressing up a cheap copy. And the Moonshine Gold and Moonphase editions get faked fastest, because those are the ones with resale value. Buy from a seller showing clear, close-up photos of the exact unit, not a stock image.
The honest version
A MoonSwatch replica is a cheap quartz watch in a plastic case that looks like another cheap quartz watch in a plastic case. That is not a scandal. It is a purchase where the gap between real and fake is smaller than anywhere else in the watch world, which means the tells matter more, not less.
