Advice before you buy

Set a budget. A $120 replica uses a quartz movement, 316L steel, and mineral glass. A $500 replica uses an automatic movement, 904L steel, and sapphire crystal. Both are copies. Neither is a Cartier.

Parameters that set the price

  • Movement: Quartz $120-$250. Automatic $350-$650.
  • Case material: 316L steel is standard. 904L steel costs more. Gold plating wears off.
  • Crystal: Mineral glass scratches. Sapphire resists scratches.
  • Bracelet: Solid links cost more than folded links.
  • Gemstones: Fake diamonds and sapphires vary in quality. Skip them unless you see close-up photos.

Pitfalls

No return policy. No physical address. Payment by wire transfer or cryptocurrency. These are red flags.

Customs seizure. U.S. Customs and Border Protection can seize counterfeit watches. You lose the watch and the money.

Wrong weight. A genuine steel Tank Anglaise small weighs about 90 grams. A light replica feels hollow.

Water resistance. Most replicas claim 30 meters. Do not swim with them.

Bottom line

A fake Cartier Tank Anglaise price is $120 to $650. Pay more for an automatic movement and sapphire crystal. Pay less for quartz and mineral glass. Check the seller's return policy and payment method. Check local laws before you buy.
