Short answer
IW321841 is an IWC-style reference string. It splits into three parts: IW, 3218, and 41. IWC does not publish a reference 3218 in its catalogs. The v1 tail is a replica seller tag, not part of the IWC number. A watch sold as "fake IW321841 v1" is a first-version replica of a model that cannot be confirmed from the number alone.
How IWC reference numbers work
IWC writes references as IW plus six digits. The first four digits group the case and movement family. The last two digits mark the dial, strap, or market variant. Two watches with the same first four digits can differ in strap color, dial finish, or bracelet. The suffix is a variant code, not a model code.
Known pilot families use 3270 and 3777. Portugieser automatics use 5007. Portofino automatics use 3565. A 3218 group does not appear in those lists.
What "3218" points to
I could not confirm a 3218 entry in IWC's published collections. Sellers attach the number to pilot-style dials and to Portofino-style cases. The listing text is not a source. The caseback engraving on the actual watch is the source. Ask for a clear photo of the caseback before you pay.
Buying Guide: How to Spot Fake IW321841V7 Watches
What v1 means in the replica market
Replica sellers tag batches with version numbers. The tags are informal.
- v1: first release of a batch.
- v2, v3: later revisions. Dial print, date wheel font, crystal coating, or movement can change between versions.
- No standard: two sellers can use the same tag for different watches. There is no registry that maps a tag to a factory.
Version numbers do not prove quality. A v1 from one batch can be closer to the original than a v3 from another.
Checks before you buy
- Case diameter and thickness in millimeters. Compare to the reference you are copying.
- Movement type. Asian 7750, clone 2892, and quartz have different thickness and different subdial spacing.
- Dial text. Check the letter spacing and the position of the logo under the 12.
- Date window. Check the cutout edge and the font on the date wheel.
- Lume. Ask for a dark-room photo.
- Caseback engraving depth and font.
- Weight in grams. Steel cases fall in a narrow range.
- Bracelet end link fit at the lugs.
What cannot be confirmed
No factory spec sheet exists for "321841 v1" that a buyer can check. The string is a listing label. Treat it as a name, not a specification. Ask the seller which model the watch copies and which movement it runs. A seller who cannot answer both questions is a risk.
Legal note
