Honeygold is a Lange alloy of gold and other metals. The company does not publish the mix. Lange does not supply the alloy or the caliber to other makers.

Where Copies Differ

Case height is the first gap. A stock three-hand movement measures about 4 mm. Crystal, dial, and case back add 3 mm to 5 mm. Most copies land at 8 mm to 11 mm, and that gap is visible in photos next to a ruler.

  • Case metal: gold plate or PVD on steel. The real case is solid 18k Honeygold.
  • Dial: paint or lacquer on brass. The real dial is fired enamel.
  • Hands: plated. Plating wears at the edges and at the tips.
  • Movement: stock caliber with printed or laser-etched decoration. Lange engraves the balance cock by hand.
  • Case back: copy bridge shapes and screw heads do not match the L093.1 layout.

Checks Before You Pay

  1. Ask for the thickness on a caliper, measured at the case edge.
  2. Ask for the movement name and a photo of the case back.
  3. Weigh the watch. Gold is denser than steel, so a solid gold case of the same size weighs more than a steel case.
  4. Check hand edges at 5x to 10x. Plating loss shows as a lighter rim.
  5. Compare dial text and spacing against photos from Lange.

What No Copy Has

No copy has the L093.1. No copy holds a 72-hour reserve from that caliber. Stock movements in this class run about 38 to 42 hours. No copy has hand engraving on the balance cock. Service is a second gap. Lange services the genuine watch. Copy sellers do not service the case, and some watchmakers refuse to open a copy. US Customs and Border Protection can seize counterfeit goods at import, so a copy can be lost in transit with no refund.
