Short answer
A replica Patek Philippe is an unauthorized copy of a watch made by Patek Philippe SA, a Swiss maker founded in 1839. It is not a Patek Philippe product. Importing or selling one in the United States is a federal offense under 18 U.S.C. 2320. Buying one for personal use is a different charge, but U.S. Customs and Border Protection can seize and destroy the shipment.

Movement and finishing
Genuine Patek Philippe watches use in-house calibers, including the 324 S C and the 26-330 S C. The company has applied its own Patek Philippe Seal since 2009. That seal covers rate deviation, finishing, and power reserve. Replicas use bought-in movements. Common ones are Chinese automatic calibers and clones of the ETA 2824. Finishing on a genuine movement is done by hand: chamfered bridges, Geneva stripes, black-polished steel. Replica finishing is machine-applied or absent.

- Price: a genuine Nautilus or Calatrava is not sold new through unofficial channels at a discount.
Known unknowns
