What IW544732 means
IW544732 is an IWC reference number. The first four digits, 5447, mark a model block. The last two digits, 32, mark one case, dial, and strap combination inside that block. IWC stamps the full number on the caseback and prints it on the warranty card. A replica seller copies that number onto the back of a watch made in another factory.
IWC is a Swiss brand owned by Richemont. I could not confirm the exact model family and calibre behind IW544732 from public sources. The IWC site lists the case size, movement, and water rating for each reference. Pull that page first, then compare the copy against those numbers.
Why the reference matters in the copy market
Sellers use the reference as a keyword. Two listings with the same number can ship two different watches. Case diameter, lug width, and subdial position are the parts that differ most. Ask for caliper photos of the case, the lug width, and the caseback before payment.
Movement
Chronograph copies in this size class often use an Asia Valjoux 7750, a Chinese copy of the ETA 7750. It runs at 28,800 vph with a 40 to 48 hour power reserve. Three-hand copies use a 2824-style automatic. Hand-wound copies use a 6497 or 6498 clone. Subdial spacing on a 7750 copy will not match a genuine in-house IWC calibre. Compare subdial position against photos of the real watch.
Checks before you pay
- Case thickness: compare to the number on the IWC page. Copies run 0.3 mm to 1 mm thicker.
- Crystal: sapphire with anti-reflective coating. Mineral glass scratches and shows a purple tint.
- Dial print: numeral font and the thickness of the brand text.
- Date wheel: font and alignment in the window.
- Caseback: engraving depth, font, and serial number.
- Lume: charge the dial and compare glow time.
- Strap: alligator grain leather against real alligator.
- Water resistance: sellers claim 30 m. Most copies are not pressure tested. Do not swim with one.
Price and shipping
Mid-tier copies of IWC chronographs sell for $150 to $400. Copies with a decorated movement sell for $500 and up. Shipping comes from China and takes 10 to 25 days to the United States. Customs can hold or seize a package.
Legal status in the United States
Counterfeit watches are illegal to import and sell in the United States. 19 U.S.C. 1526 lets Customs and Border Protection seize and destroy counterfeit goods. 18 U.S.C. 2320 sets criminal penalties for trafficking in counterfeit goods. Richemont, IWC's parent company, files takedown requests and seizure actions. Buying a copy for personal use carries lower risk than reselling. A seized package is not refunded by the seller in most cases.
